Begun in 1988 as a fifteen-member string ensemble, The Symphony of Rutherford County grew to a 60 member, all-volunteer orchestra. That number has ebbed and flowed over the years, and today we have approximately 50 volunteer members. We are a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization, governed by an elected board of directors.
We’re getting a new home!
But we need your help – The Symphony’s future home and event space will be in a historic RCS facility in Rutherfordton, which is being renovated to provide an inviting space for our dynamic musical ensemble. This space will provide us with a permanent rehearsal space that will be tailored to our needs as a large ensemble. Our fundraising efforts will continue so we can finish this amazing space.
Children’s Concert
Each fall, The Symphony of Rutherford County welcomes more than 1,000 fourth- and fifth-grade students for a special Children’s Concert created just for them. Students attend from Rutherford County schools, public charter schools, private schools, and homeschool groups, giving young people from across our community the opportunity to experience a live symphony orchestra—many for the very first time. Through this annual educational concert, the Symphony fulfills an important part of its mission: serving our community through music and music education, while helping inspire the next generation of musicians, listeners, and music lovers.
The Children’s Concert is presented specifically for participating schools and homeschool groups and is not offered through public ticket sales.
